Weekend newsletter #17
The best of what I've read this week, about operations, training and education, communication, and more
Hello!
Today I want to emphasize the importance of taking action toward your plans and goals, even just one small step.
An example related to my recent move:
I was getting very discouraged with all the fake/scam apartments listed online and other issues such as unrealistic rental requirements. I decided to take action and go visit the neighborhood and street of an apartment that did not look like a scam, though it wasn’t available for another month or two. It did not have an exact address but the road was in the neighborhood I was looking at, where a few of my friends live.
While I was driving on this winding, narrow, mountain-y road, I saw someone walking on the road who looked familiar. It was my friend Sharon who I hadn’t seen in several years! We did a double take, I stopped, she got in the car, and she directed me to her new house on a nearby street. Sharon previously lived in the rental apartment of the dog rescue founder and she helped my dog recover from injuries when she was first brought to the rescue (before I adopted her). She also was my hair stylist pre-COVID and she was my client for my previous photography business. We have had a lot of connections over the past 10+ years.
Getting back to the point, Sharon knew of two apartments nearby, in my price range, that would be ready to rent soon! We went to see one that day, which wasn’t a good fit. The other apartment was one her former landlord was looking to rent to someone they personally knew (it was not posted online). That is now my current apartment! And my first friend in San Diego also lives a few blocks away, when I thought she was still living on the other side of town.
It all happened from deciding to get out from behind the computer and go take action toward my goals! You never know what can happen.
(Also—when I recently took Sharon to dinner to thank her for the apartment referral, our dinner was either mysteriously paid for by someone else, or there was a glitch in the system that said our check was closed out…serendipity! Sharon and I need to hang out more!!)
So that was a long story, but I hope it inspires you to move beyond thinking and planning and take a small action step toward your goals. You never know what can happen!
Onto the resources!
